Russian Federation calls to avoid steps that may worsen situation around North Korea

US President Donald Trump addresses the UN General Assembly in New York

Russian Federation and China called for restraint on North Korea after US President Donald Trump warned over the weekend that "only one thing will work" in dealing with Pyongyang, hinting that military action was on his mind.

The controversial President has also said that he would be willing to "totally destroy" North Korea if it meant protecting allies from nuclear threats.

On Saturday, he fired off two tweets: "Presidents and their administrations have been talking to North Korea for 25 years, agreements made and massive amounts of money paid... hasn't worked, agreements violated before the ink was dry, makings fools of United States negotiators".

On Sunday, "Meet the Press" host Chuck Todd asked what that "one thing" might be. Trump was engaged in a heated war of words with Kim Jong-Un, the leader of North Korea.

Trump remarked last week that the current period may be the "calm before the storm". This has left it unclear who or what he was specifically referring to when he said "giving billions of dollars".

TransCanada abandons $12 billion pipeline project after green push
The decision had been substantially priced in to the company's shares and TransCanada's stock was last up 0.4 percent on the Toronto Stock Exchange at C$61.15.

Trump said on Saturday he had a good relationship with Secretary of State Rex Tillerson but that Tillerson could be tougher.

Trump has once again taken to Twitter to attack North Korea's Kim Jong-un. "I feel like this is a similar situation, they want to do something in North Korea because it is a sort of wag the dog or kill the messenger and they are kind of trying to force-fit it".

A top Korea analyst at the Central Intelligence Agency last week said that the U.S. government should be ready for another North Korean provocation this week - not least because the anniversary overlaps with Columbus Day in the United States, given the 12-hour, 30-minute time difference between Pyongyang and Washington.

On July 4, North Korea conducted its first test of an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), which it claims could reach "anywhere in the world."In September 2017, North Korea carried out its sixth nuclear test, this time detonating what it claimed was a hydrogen bomb".

In Pyongyang on Saturday, Kim was telling his officials that North Korea's nuclear weapons were a "powerful deterrent" and that the Workers' Party of Korea would "victoriously conclude the standoff with the United States".
