Mexican border wall prototype construction begins

Trump wall prototype to be built this week

The prototypes would measure between 18 and 30 feet high. Contractors trying to win the bid for the final product started building their prototypes in San Diego. The type of material has not been disclosed yet. The following companies were selected to build them: Caddell Construction; KWR Construction Inc. of Sierra Vista, Arizona; ELTA North America Inc. of Annapolis Junction, Maryland; and W.G. Yates & Sons. According to CBP, they "will inform future design standard (s) which will likely continue to evolve to meet (U.S. Border Patrol) requirements".

The issue of who's footing the bill for the wall has proved to be an area of contention between the USA and Mexico, as President Trump has repeatedly called on Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto to commit to sharing the costs of his "big, beautiful" wall. CBP's acting deputy commissioner, Ronald Vitiello, said the agency is committed to securing the border and "that includes constructing border walls".

"If you're in favor of the wall, you're entitled to speak in favor of it but peacefully, and that's what we're asking for".

Along most of the 3,180 km US-Mexico border the wall project includes clearing an area to allow US authorities to see what is happening on the Mexican side and, in some zones where the danger of illegal crossings is greater, a solid wall made of cement-like materials is planned.

It's really hard , as a manager you try to help and support them but when the whistle starts, it's all about you and your teammates.

The sample walls will be built to scale, and function as usable barriers along the border. Even if the construction of the wall is approved, the wall would not be completed by the end of Trump's first term, as The Atlantic reported in February.

A green tarp hanging on a chain-link fence blocked views of the work, which is expected to last 30 days.

In nearby streets, signs have been posted prohibiting vehicles from parking there between September 26 and November 10. Both waivers are in California, including one that covers the site of prototype construction. "There is no funding for it in Congress", Hiram Soto, spokesman for the activist group Alliance San Diego, told Los Angeles Times.
