Federation Internationale de Football Association to lift controversial poppy ban

Football lawmakers IFAB to lift poppy ban

English players are now expected to either wear armbands with a poppy on them or have the poppy embroidered on their shirts in the same way as Premier League teams.

Just shy of a year ago, FIFA levied heavy fines against the Football Associations of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland for defying protocol and wearing Remembrance poppies during their November internationals. The match has not been confirmed but will go ahead unless - as seems unlikely - either side is involved in a play-off to qualify for next year's World Cup.

Wales, England and Scotland were fined by Federation Internationale de Football Association for displaying poppy emblems at matches, with England being fined £35,000 and Scotland £15,000. "I think it is absolutely right that they should be able to do so".

Once the new rules are agreed, players will be allowed to wear poppies on the pitch, but only on the conditions that the opposing team agrees and the competition organiser has no objection.

The new proposal is expected to be passed in time for November's worldwide matches, which will be played between 6 and 14 November.

England are due to play Germany in a friendly at London's Wembley stadium during that time and it is has been reported that the German FA have no difficulties with the wearing of poppies. To do so, England need to beat Slovenia at Wembley next month to secure automatic promotion while a draw is enough for Germany against Northern Ireland at Windsor Park.

BSF jawan killed in Pakistani firing
The latest spell of shelling was reported at around 9:30 pm and the fire exchange continued beyond midnight, reports said. BSF troops guarding the border, retaliated the firing and gave a befitting reply while on civilian was also injured.

However, the FA are refusing to comment until the new Law has been fully ratified by Federation Internationale de Football Association.

England previously wore poppies with FIFA's go-ahead during a friendly with Spain in 2011.

The poppy has always been used as a symbol for the British to commemorate military personnel who died in battle.

Football's lawmakers, the International Football Association Board (IFAB), are expected to rubber-stamp the change next month following strong criticism from British associations.

The new wording tightens the definition of what is to be deemed a "political" symbol by the football authorities.
