Remarkable Rossi qualifies third for Aragon MotoGP despite broken leg

Rossi returns as Pedrosa sets Aragon pace

Ducati's Jorge Lorenzo was second on the day at 0.214sec with Yamaha Tech's Johann Zarco and Pedrosa's teammate and fellow Spaniard Marc Marquez next best.

Valentino Rossi finished a respectable fifth in his comeback race at Aragon in northern Spain, just 25 days after suffering a double fracture of his right leg.

Marquez made a couple of mistakes during the race and the Honda rider admitted he took many risks because he struggled more with the bike than he had expected to.

First losing his place, to Dani Pedrosa's Honda and then finding himself in the rear-views of Maverick Vinales, and even Aprilia Aleix Espargaro to finish in seventh place overall.

Fourth-place sees Vinales slip to 28 points off Marquez in third in the championship standings.

Things to Watch on Catalonia's Referendum
Student union representatives are calling for protesters to remain over the weekend to support for the vote. They occupied a central cloister near the offices of the dean and other university officials.

Now it's time to race, with equal points at the top between Marquez and Dovizioso - both of whom start off the front row - Rossi fighting through the pain barrier, and Viñales ready to strike from pole. Johann Zarco (Yamaha Tech 3) took ninth after a hard weekend, ahead of Espargaro, completing the top 10 for KTM, making steady progress for another impressive result.

All eyes were on Movistar Yamaha MotoGP's Valentino Rossi at Motorland Aragon for round 14 of 18 in 2017 MotoGP.

"I came up beside him and he came very close to me - he recounts - Our handgrips nearly touched and it was unsafe because at that point we were doing more than 300 kph". But the five-time world champion easily moved through, subsequently qualifying on the front row. Jack Miller missed out on Q2 by only thousandths and starts P13, with Pol Espargaro and Karel Abraham locking out the fastest fifteen for the grid.

However, he hopes to be close to 100 percent fitness for the start of three races in a frantic three weeks starting at the Japanese Grand Prix on October 15.
