Stay off Rohingya Muslim matter, Centre tells Supreme Court

A Rohingya refugee girl looks out as makeshift shelters become flooded due to heavy rain in Cox's Bazar Bangladesh

India's government said Monday that it has evidence there are extremists who pose a threat to the country's security among the Rohingya Muslims who have fled Myanmar and settled in many Indian cities.

The document was submitted in response to a plea filed by two Rohingya immigrants, who claim that they faced persecution in Myanmar.

It said, "As far as Rohingyas are concerned they claimed to have entered from Myanmar using porous border between India and Myanmar".

The United Nations says there are 16,000 registered Rohingya in India, but many more are undocumented.

Earlier speaking at an another event Madhav hit out at opposition leaders who are advocating granting Rohingyas shelter in the country, saying they are defending those who pose a security threat to the country.

The Indian government told the court that it had intelligence data that showed links between some Rohingya Muslims and Pakistan-based terror groups and other worldwide terror organizations.

Adjourning the hearing, the court asked the petitioner and others to file their rejoinder to the Centre's stand before the next date of hearing.

"It is also found by the Central Government that numerous Rohingya figure in the suspected sinister designs of ISI/ISIS and other extremist groups who want to achieve their ulterior motives in India including that of flaring up communal and sectarian violence in sensitive areas of the country", the 16-paged affidavit added.

Mattis: S. Korea Will not Face N. Korean Provocations Alone
He said it is impossible to say at this point how big the test bomb was, or which of many possible bomb designs was used. North Korean leader Kim Jong Un then called the launch a "meaningful prelude" to containing the U.S.

The Navy in April 30 this year has rescued 30 Rohingya refugees and they have left the island after a court ordered to hand them over to UNHCR last month, according to the Ministry.

The Centre added that some Rohingyas are indulging in illegal/ anti-national activities ie mobilisation of funds through hundi/ hawala channels.

The court will next hear the matter on October 3.

India is already extending help to Bangladesh to meet the refugee crisis.

However, some inputs indicate that around 40,000 undocumented Rohingyas were staying in India, mostly in Jammu, Hyderabad, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi-NCR and Rajasthan regions.

Taking the minister of state for home Kiren Rijiju to task, he slammed the BJP led government for handling Rohingya Muslims with blinkered vision and communal mindset.

Congress spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi said the matter was "very sensitive" and the government must act responsibly while maintaining a balance between internal security and worldwide obligations while taking a call on the issue. The Myanmar government considers the Rohingya to be economic migrants from Bangladesh.
