Dragic leads Slovenia to Eurobasket glory

European basketball champions Spain humbled by Slovenia

Goran Dragic ended his global career in style as his 35 points led Slovenia past Serbia, 93-85, to claim their first-ever EuroBasket title.

With scores level with just over two minutes left, Klemen Prepelic (21 points) hit a clutch shot followed by an Anthony Randolph (15 points) running jumper to give Slovenia some breathing space. In the middle of the final quarter the Serbs after a long chase took the lead, but Slovenia immediately organized dash 12:0 and shut down all questions about the winners of Eurobasket 2017. But Slovenia, which had upset pre-tournament favorite Spain 92-72 in the semifinals, refused to fold.

Dragic scored 20 of Slovenia's 36 points in the second quarter to help give it a 56-47 halftime lead. "They brought the National Basketball Association speed on the floor", Serbia coach Aleksandar Djordjevic said.

However, Slovenians managed to go on a 10-point run to claim victory.

Gasol brothers - Marc and Pau - were in form once again, helping Spain bag the bronze medal in the tournament.

Serbia slowed down the pace in the third, which ended with Slovenia up 71-67.

For Russia, point guard Alexey Shved's 18 points and center Timofey Mozgov's 14 points were not enough to beat Spain.
